First impressions are lasting impressions. A judge and jury may take a note of you in the courtroom before you are called to testify. Don’t wear gaudy jewelry or display tattoos. Be neat. Hair should be trimmed and combed neatly.
Men – a jacket and tie is a good idea.
Women – business attire.
 
Demeanor
Maintain a professional and dignified manner inside and outside of the courtroom. A defendant’s life, liberty and professional reputation may be at stake.
 
1.  Answer only the question asked.
2.  Make sure your answer is responsive to the
     question asked.
3.  Don’t volunteer information that is not requested.
4.  Prepare to testify by reviewing notes with your attorney.
5.  Be sure you clearly understand a question before answering it.
6.  When in the courtroom address the Judge as “your honor”, outside as “judge.”
7.  If after leaving the stand you feel your lawyer failed to ask a pertinent question, tactfully adivse him so that should he choose to recall you to the stand
     he may do so.
8.  When necessary to refresh your memory on the witness stand by reviewing your notes, request the judge’s permission before doing so (your notes so
     used are open for inspection by the prosecutor). Review your notes with your attorney before bringing them to the stand.

Avoid
1.  Arguing with anyone in the court.
2.  Joking with anyone
3.  Failing to speak clearly and distinctly
4.  Being late to court or dozing in court
5.  Carrying on conversations with the other witnesses in the courtroom while the trial is in progress.
